GENERAL INFORMATION
THE EMMAUS MOVEMENT
It is an international movement born in the late 40th meeting between the French Abbe Pierre and George. The two wew working together to help anyone in times of misery and suffering. This is how the Emmaus Community, a community of life that can accommodate people in need who are involved in the Emmaus classic that is the recovery, recycling and sale of used material. Through this activity the community is self-financing, allows people to leave the circuit relief, to recover their dignity and also, thanks to a simple lifestyle, to have a profit that is entirely for the solidarity. The Emmaus community is a concrete example of how to be together to be successful and lead to a model of society and attentive to the needs of all life from the most vulnerable and for the benefit of all. Those excluded from society and become donors each person is welcomed and appreciated beyond its past, the origin of his political or religious. Emmaus is also fighting the causes of misery and suffering, for the rights and dignity of people, just relations between the north and south of the planet, for justice, legality, peace, environment and community property. At present, over 300 of the International Emmaus groups around the world. Emmaus Europe coordinating groups at the European level. At national level, groups and communities who are 14 and Emmaus are coordinated by the Emmaus Italy.
INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTARY WORKING CAMPS
Emmaus working camps born in the 60 to give the opportunity for young students or workers to live, during their summer or winter holidays, the experience of welcoming, life in the community, work, service and fight characteristics of Emmaus experience. Young people from all over the world share a life in community in a welcoming and quiet atmosphere, through to the activities of recovery and recycling of used material can support planned initiative of solidarity. Inside the camps is also possible to reflect about the global reality of our planet and about issues related to the commitment of the Emmaus movement.
EMMAUS TORINO 2011
In the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy and in the International Year of Volunteers Emmaus Italy has decided to organize two international events in Turin: - from 10 July to 4 September – an international working camp for collecting, sorting and selling of used material with the participation of over 800 young volunteers – on 10 and 11 of September, a huge flea and collectors market with the material and the participation of the Emmaus European communities. The benefit of the initiatives will go to the following initiatives of solidarity: - support group Abel initiatives for victims of trafficking and prostitution - a contribution to Emmaus Italy for the opening of new communities for the welcoming of people in difficulties and for the structures necessary for self-financing activities – a contribution to Emmaus International initiatives in Africa, Asia and Latin America. It’s possible to contribute to these initiatives of solidarity donating to Emmaus reusable materials during the working camp, buying at the solidarity flea market at the working camp and at the huge flea market in September or by bank transfer to Emmaus Italy: reason: Solidarity Turin 2011
